Brunch with Grace and Shawn and Elin

Updated plan:
  • Muffins - http://www.101cookbooks.com/archives/oatmeal-muffins-recipe.html
  • Strata - rebar recipe plus http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2009/12/spinach-and-cheese-strata/
  • Sausages - purchase links at whole foods
  • Feta dill torte - http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/15/dining/151arex.html (update: really need to make this and then leave it out of the oven for 2 hours before flipping it over and taking it out of the pan - mine got soggy on the bottom because I flipped it too quickly)
  • Potato latkes (update: these were too salty from Smitten Kitchen and were best when cooked initially - not as good reheated like mamma's potato pancakes were)
  • French toast - purchase cinnamon raisin bread for Sean
  • Fruit salad - http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/11/winter-fruit-salad/ (update: this was ok - a little overly vanilla maybe...)
  • Yogurt - Vanilla Strauss yogurt (update: the fruit was sweet so plain yogurt might have been better)
  • Coffee - Ritual
  • Mimosas - OJ and champagne
  • Sparkling water

Before Friday:
  • Roast garlic
  • Purchase cinnamon raisin bread and sausages (and buy more grey poupon? other juice? hot chocolate?)

Friday night:
  • Assemble strata
  • Make potato latkes
  • Make fruit salad
  • Chill champagne

Saturday morning:
  • Make feta-dill torte (takes about 2 hours - start before 8 am)
  • Bake muffins (takes about 1 hour - start before 9 am)
  • Make coffee
  • Prepare for French toast (don't start making until we're ready to eat)
  • Prepare to cook sausages (don't cook until we're ready to eat so they're hot?)
  • Warm up latkes in oven
  • Bake strata in oven
  • Finish fruit salad
